Osteopathic adjustment is a therapeutic procedure where in an osteopath applies a sudden force through his hands to the patient's spine or joints in order to realign them, reduce pain, improve movement and joint mobility.
Adjustment/cracking is considered a safe, drug-free and easily accessible pain relief treatment, that relieves pressure on joints, reduces inflammation, and improves nerve function. It's often used to treat back, neck, shoulder, and headaches. Research also supports its effective use in pain relief for conditions such as fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis.
At your initial visit, your osteopath will ask questions about your general health history, injury or pain history and perform a physical exam. Your osteopath may also recommend other examinations or tests, such as X-rays or MRIs.
During a typical osteopathic adjustment, your osteopath places you in specific positions to treat affected areas on a specially designed, padded treatment table. Then, the osteopath uses his hands to apply a controlled, sudden force to a joint, or gently stretch it pushing it beyond its usual range of motion. This helps align the vertebrae in your spine if they were slightly off-center and release gases trapped within your joints hence the popping or cracking sounds you may hear during your procedure. While this may sound painful, osteopathic procedures offer little to no pain.
Everyone is different. Most people tend to feel immediate relief, but some might need several sessions to get to that point.
"My firs visit to BOC was after picking up my small dog from the footwell of the passenger seat car while sitting in the drivers seat… I put my back out so completely that I couldn’t really even walk or bend.Mudhair and the team sorted me an emergency appointment and re-aligned my back out so I could go back to work that morning. I then went to the clinic every 1-4 weeks for a check-up & a combination of massage focused on the problem areas (i would go just for the massages they were great), ultrasound and chiropractic aligning to treat the repetitive injury from carrying heavy things at work with one arm. I have now since stopped that job (so stopping the re/injury) Thank you BOC for looking after me and making me better through all that time :)" PlantLabs Team
